Violent Crime Down In London

It's a tale of two sets of figures when it comes to crime in London and the surrounding area.

According to figures released by Statistics Canada on Wednesday, the violent crime rate in the London census metropolitan area was down in 2014 but the overall crime rate was up.

The Crime Severity Index, which measures the rate of serious and violent crimes, saw a 2% drop between 2013 and 2014 in London. That's in line with what was reported nationally (3%).

But while many communities reported decreases in the overall crime rate, London saw an increase of 5%. That figure was eclipsed by only Vancouver and Abbotsford-Mission among Canadian cities.
