A Second World War veteran will be in London Tuesday night, hoping to inspire a generation to change the course of history as the fall election approaches.
Harry Leslie Smith, the author of "Harry's Last Stand: How The World My Generation Built Is Falling Down and What We Can Do To Save It" will speak with young activists as part of his Canadian tour.
Smith, who survived the great depression and the Second World War before coming to Canada, says it is essential to change the direction the world is heading in.
"What am I looking to turn around? Pretty well everything at the moment. Austerity is rampant, people are not getting the jobs that they need and they are having to work at two or three jobs to even make ends meet, let alone anything else," notes Smith. "I think if we're not careful we will wind up in a state of anarchy, because people will take it for so long and then they will rebel."
He says the way the government is structured and run is failing.
"I think we have to scrutinize every member of parliament and make sure his thoughts are our thoughts and he is for us, and not for making himself a decent living," Smith tells BlackburnNews.com. "I can see Canada returning to the state we had to endure in the 20s and 30s."
The veteran and author will speak at Museum London on Tuesday night at 7:30 as part of the Broadbent Institute's "Stand up for Progress" national tour.
