The Salvation Army is sending London's Perron Goodyear to coordinate relief efforts in Saskatchewan as crews there battle wild fires.
About 9,000 people are still away form their homes in more than 50 communities after being evacuated last week.
Goodyear is the Ontario Great Lakes Division's Director Emergency and Disaster Services. He will leave early Wednesday morning.
Goodyear has extensive experience in emergency response; travelling to Texas to help after Hurricane Ike in 2008, going to Goderich after the tornado in 2011 and then providing relief during the Alberta floods in 2013.
“While we never want these types of disasters to happen, it is an honour and privilege to be able to assist in any way we can”, says Goodyear. “Our goal is to try and mitigate the effects of this disaster on the local people."
The wildfire north of La Ronge is believed to be stable but crews are still worried about the impact the wind may have.
The Salvation Army is providing water, food, clothing and support to those displaced.
