Windsor-London Car Theft, Chase

London police say they were able to stop a stolen car but only after its driver took it to Windsor, brought it back, stole fuel and led them on a short pursuit.

The hours-long incident began on Tuesday with the theft of a car from the Adelaide St. and Fanshawe Park Rd. area of London. At about 3am Wednesday, Windsor police officers spotted the vehicle but lost sight of it. Four hours later, it was reported again in London, after gas was stolen from a station at Wellington Rd. and Exeter Rd.

At about 8am a London officer noticed the car near North Centre Rd. and Sunningdale Dr. The officer gave chase but abandoned it after the driver of the stolen vehicle refused to stop.  Finally, a suspect was arrested moments later in a parking lot at Fanshawe Park Rd. and Richmond St.

Garrett Donaldson, 23, of Windsor is now in custody and charged with failing to stop for police, theft under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
