Olympian Damian Warner will carry the Pan Am Games Torch when the relay comes through London on June 17 and 18.
Warner is a Canadian decathlete and Montcalm Secondary School Graduate who will be in action at the games in Toronto this summer.
The 25-year-old has competed in front of the world at the 2012 Olympics, won a bronze medal at the 2013 World Championships and took home a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Relay route details will be released closer to the relay dates in June. Londoners are asked to join in a community celebration in Victoria Park on June 17 to welcome the torch.
“Damian Warner will proudly carry the Pan Am flame as London’s community torchbearer,” says Mayor Matt Brown. “London is excited to be a part of this historic journey and we look forward to showing our community to the world.”
The torch for the Pan Am Games will travel more than 20,000km across the country during the 41 day relay, which begins on May 30 and ends with the lighting of the cauldron during the opening ceremonies in Toronto on July 10.
A total of 3,000 torchbearers have been chosen.
