A Waterloo company has been fined $90,000 after a London man fell to his death at a job site in 2013.
On October 11, 2013 Nick Lalonde died when he fell from an apartment building on King St. N in Waterloo. He was performing masonry work for Maison Canada.
Investigators say the 23-year-old was hit by a crane carrying a skid of concrete blocks, knocking him from the roof top. Lalonde fell four storeys.
The Ministry of Labour says while he was trained in fall prevention he was not using any form of fall prevention equipment at the time of the incident.
Central Construction, the company subcontracted by Maison Canada, plead guilty to failing as an employer to ensure that a fall restricting system was used where a guardrail system was not reasonably possible.
The company must pay a $90,000 fine and a 25% victim surcharge.
The 23-year-old was a father of one. The company said that he had been on the job for less than a week at the time of his death.
