The Ministry of Natural Resources is investigating following the discovery of four dead coyotes, two decapitated, near walking trails in the region.
The first two animals were found on the campus of Western University, laying beside each other in the same position. Campus police are probing that incident.
The second two were placed near a walking trail in a Parkhill conservation area in a similar way. Both of the animals' heads had been removed.
"That's not something that normally hunters do. It's a little unusual for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry to encounter," says MNRF Spokesperson Jolanta Kowalski. "It's unusual. The ones at Western, I wasn't sure if it was a random incident or what, but now that we have the two at Parkhill, it does seem kind of strange."
Kowalski says there is an open season right now for hunting coyotes in the area. All that is needed is a licence.
"I don't know that anything has been done illegally," Kowalski tells BlackburnNews.com.
