London police say more people were charged with liquor offences this St. Patrick's Day compared to last.
A total of 93 tickets were handed out yesterday, compared to 74 last year. However, both pale in comparison to the 274 tickets issued in 2013 and the riots of 2012.
Police warned party-goers before the Irish day of celebration that officers would be out in full force, patrolling the areas of Richmond Row, Western University and Fanshawe College.
Officers issued 240 warnings for things like bylaw violations, noise complaints and liquor infractions.
The London Police Service has been working with the Fanshawe Student Union and the Western University Students' Council to reduce the size of crowds in certain areas.
Officers on patrol during the day and throughout the night live tweeted each time they had to shut down a party or give someone a ticket. According to social media, one party was broken up on Talbot St. because people were throwing beer bottles from the roof and another was shut down on Wolfe St.
For the most part, police say the cold weather kept people indoors.
Police have ramped up patrols in known party areas and taken serious action to reduce crowds following the St. Patrick's Day riots of 2012 near Fanshawe College. Several people were arrested after party-goers torched a CTV news car, set couches on fire and pelted police with bottles.
