Check Smoke Alarm Batteries When Changing Clocks

As you set your clocks ahead one hour tonight, fire officials are asking you to replace the batteries in your home's smoke alarms.

Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday, March 8.

The local fire department wants you to create a habit of replacing the batteries in your smoke alarms when you change your clocks twice a year.

Officials say of all the fatal house fires in Ontario, 44% of the homes had smoke alarms with no batteries or dead batteries.

It is provincial law to have a smoke alarm on each level of your house near sleeping areas.
