CK Cougars narrowly lose provincial championship game

The Chatham-Kent U10 Cougars nearly completed a comeback for the ages.

The football team played the Durham Dolphins over the weekend in the Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL) 'A' Division championship, losing 38-33.

At one point in the fourth quarter, the Cougars trailed 32-6. The team ended the game by scoring 27 of their final 33 points.

"If we had another minute, I think we could have had it. Actually, I know we could have had it," said Stephen Nguyen, the head coach of the CK Cougars.

He told CK News Today the game started off great as they were the first on the scoreboard. However, they quickly faced a massive hurdle.

"My running back felt unwell, so he had to go out, and I think that got my team all shook up and nervous," added Nguyen.

Despite trailing by 26 points, the team tried its hardest to come back. Nguyen said even though his players are just kids, they had the mindset of seasoned veterans, refusing to concede.

Moving forward, Nguyen has high hopes for the team.

"We tasted the championship, and now we want it, and we're going to get it," he said.
