Aitken, DiBlasi lead Maroons in Game 1 win over Stratford

The Chatham Maroons have started the second round of the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) playoffs on the right foot.

The team hosted the Stratford Warriors in Game 1 on Sunday, winning 3-2.

Trevor Zanutto opened the scoring for the Maroons late in the first period. His fifth goal of the playoffs was assisted by Ian Lachance and Josh Harding.

The second period was controlled by Stratford as the Warriors scored two goals on 25 shots.

The Maroons would go into the final frame tied 2-2 thanks to a goal from Bo Doxtator. Getting the only assist on Doxtator's first goal of the playoffs was Matthew Crawford.

The game remained tied until Xandre Aitken found the back of the net with just over two minutes left to give the Maroons the lead. Santiago Jimenes and Evan Krell had the assists.

Samuel DiBlasi would close out the game, making 44 saves for the win.

The Maroons will look for their sixth straight win to start the playoffs on Monday, on the road in Stratford. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
