Maroons waiting for next opponent after sweeping St. Thomas

The Chatham Maroons are waiting to see who they'll play in the second round of the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) playoffs.

The Maroons swept the St. Thomas Stars in the first round, picking up a 4-1 win on the road on Friday to clinch the series.

The team's offence was in full display, scoring 22 goals over the four games. Leading the way was Trevor Zanutto, the league leader in regular-season goals, who found the back of the net four times.

Six players scored at least two goals during the series. Aidan Edwards and Santiago Jimenes scored three apiece, while Xandre Aitken, Ian Lachance, and Alexander Lisi all scored twice.

When it came to total points, Aitken led the team with six. Zanutto, Edwards, and Ewan McChesney had five points.

The Maroons' offence was well-balanced, as the only player who played all four games without a point was goalie Samuel DiBlasi.

DiBlasi gave up 13 goals in the four-game series, which gave him a goals against average (GAA) of 3.10. This came in higher than his regular-season total; however, he posted a similar save percentage of .913.

The Maroons will play the lowest-seeded team in the Western Conference that advances to the second round of the playoffs. Currently, the seventh-seeded LaSalle Vipers are tied 2-2 in their series with the Elmira Sugar Kings.
