Maroons' offence comes alive in win against St. Thomas

The Chatham Maroons are one win away from advancing to the second round of the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) playoffs.

They hosted St. Thomas on Thursday in Game 3 of the best-of-seven series, with the Maroons winning 7-4.

The first period was evenly matched, with both teams scoring once. Getting the Maroons' goal was Trevor Zanutto, his second of the playoffs. Dylan Richter and Ewan McChesney with the assists.

Only one goal was scored in the second period. Ian Lachance gave the Maroons a one-goal lead with his second marker of the playoffs.

The third period saw a combined eight goals.

The first three goals of the period were scored by the Maroons. Zanutto scored twice, finishing off the hat-trick, while Aidan Edwards got the other goal. Edwards also picked up an assist on Zanutto's third goal, while McChesney, Jaxon Priddle, Josh Harding, Braeden Burke, and Carter Kucher each recorded an assist.

St. Thomas would score the next two goals before Xandre Aitken scored into an empty net for his second of the playoffs.

St. Thomas added one more before Edwards recorded his second goal of the game, third overall during the playoffs, to cap off the scoring. McChesney grabbed the only assist on the Maroons' seventh goal of the game.

Game 4 takes place Friday night in St. Thomas, with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m.
