The Chatham Maroons will be the number one seed once the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) playoffs get underway.
The team clinched top spot in the Western Conference after beating the Stratford Warriors 3-2 at home on Sunday.
Scoring the goals for the Maroons were Jaxon Priddle and Ewan McChesney. Assisting on Priddle's 20th goal were Trevor Zanutto and Aydan Doyle, while getting the helpers on McChesney's 21st goal were Boris Genov and Priddle.
The game was decided in a shootout, with Santiago Jimenes getting the game-winner in the 10th round.
Samuel DiBlasi made 43 saves for his 23rd win of the season. This was good for the second most in the GOHL, one behind Brandon Balcar of the Cambridge Redhawks.
Zanutto ended the regular season with the most goals across the league. His 35 goals were four more than second place. Zanutto would finish tied for 12th in league scoring.
Doyle's 40 assists placed him eighth across the league. He was the only defenseman to make the top 10 in assists. Doyle finished second in scoring by a defenseman, three points behind the Redhawks' Alexander Forrest.
The Maroons head into the playoffs as the hottest team in the league. The team has won 11 straight games, last losing on January 23 to the St. Thomas Stars.
The Stars will be the Maroons' matchup in the first round. The teams each won twice against the other in the regular season.
The schedule for the playoffs have not been released by the GOHL at this time.
