Zanutto's hat trick helps Maroons win eighth straight

The Chatham Maroons are now on an eight game win streak after beating the Waterloo Siskins.

The two teams faced off in Waterloo on Sunday, with the Maroons winning 5-3.

Opening the scoring in the first period was Trevor Zanutto. His 33rd goal of the season was assisted by Santiago Jimenes and Boris Genov.

The second period saw the Maroons score three goals in the first five minutes.

Braeden Burke scored his fifth to double the Maroons' lead before Zanutto found the back of the net twice to complete his hat trick. Ewan McChesney and Evan Krell assisted on Zanutto's second goal, while his third goal was unassisted.

Zanutto leads the Greater Ontario Hockey League in goals with 35, three more than Cambridge's Reid Gammage, who comes in second with 32 goals.

Waterloo would fight back with three straight goals, though their comeback fell just short as Aidan Edwards scored his 12th goal into an empty net.

Samuel DiBlasi made 22 saves for the win, his 20th of the season.

The Maroons will be back in action on March 4, on the road against the Elmira Sugar Kings. Puck drop will be at 7:30 p.m.
