A two-goal lead wasn't enough for the Chatham Maroons to beat the Stratford Warriors.
The two teams faced off in Chatham on Sunday, with Stratford winning 3-2 in a shootout.
It was Trevor Zanutto who opened the scoring for the Maroons in the second period with his league-leading 11th goal of the season.
Max Skinner doubled the Maroons' lead two minutes later with his third goal. Getting the assists were Kaden Sienko and Carter Kucher.
Stratford would get on the board before the end of the period when Jack McGurn found the back of the net.
It didn't take Stratford long in the third period to tie the game as Max Wildfong scored less than five minutes in.
Neither team would score for the rest of regulation and overtime, meaning a shootout would be needed to find a winner.
The teams remained tied after the first six shooters as Alexander Lisi for the Maroons and Quinn Kipfer for Stratford each scored.
Trevor Zanutto would score in the fifth round, but so did Lucas Minard for Stratford, extending the shootout.
McGurn found the back of the net in the seventh round, winning the game for Stratford.
Blake Verberne made 39 saves in the loss for the Maroons, including four in the shootout.
Chatham is back in action on Wednesday, on the road against the London Nationals. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
