The Chatham Maroons' undefeated run to start the season has come to an end.
The team hosted the London Nationals on Sunday and were easily beaten 6-2.
London came out firing, scoring three goals in the first period. The Nationals added two more in the second period, and a late goal in the third period to cap the scoring.
"They came ready to play, and we didn't," said Brennan Feasey, Maroons' head coach and general manager.
The Maroons hadn't played since beating the St. Marys Lincolns one week earlier. Feasey refused to use the extensive time off as an excuse.
"Honestly, I think it should have had the opposite effect. London played (the day before)," he explained.
Scoring the two goals for the Maroons against London were Trevor Zanutto and Gensen Geldart. Zanutto's goal was his league-leading eighth of the season, while Geldart's was his first in the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL).
Viljami Kukkola gave up five goals in the loss, being pulled in the second period for Samuel DiBlasi.
The Maroons will be back in action on the road on Saturday against the Brantford Titans. Puck drop is set for 1 p.m.
