This is the fourth straight Olympic games that the senior women's national team has successfully qualified for and will be the eighth appearance since the women's tournament debuted at the Olympics in 1976. Canada's best Olympic result in women's basketball was a fourth-place finish in 1984.

It will be the first time in 24 years that Canada's women's and men's basketball teams will compete together at an Olympic Games.
