The Toronto Maple Leafs have promoted from within to fill their vacant general manager's seat.
Leafs president and alternate governor Brendan Shanahan confirmed Friday that the NHL team had promoted assistant general manager Kyle Dubas to GM.
Dubas, 32, will replace Lou Lamoriello, who has been moved by the team into a senior advisor's role.
Dubas is well-known to OHL fans for his deep connection to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, he graduated from Brock University with a degree in sports management. He was hired in 2011, at the age of 25, by the Greyhounds as their general manager, making him the second-youngest GM in OHL history. Dubas is probably best-known for pulling off a blockbuster trade with the Windsor Spitfires, sending two players and seven draft picks to Windsor for goalie Jack Campbell.
He joined the Leafs in 2014 as an assistant general manager. He was responsible for handling analytics, player personnel, and overseeing the Leafs' AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.
