Spitfires Staying Fresh And Loose For Memorial Cup

The Windsor Spitfires are anxious to hit the ice again for some meaningful hockey as the MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament draws near.

Spits goalie Michael DiPietro says the team had some time off after its Game 7 loss to London in the first round of the OHL playoffs, but has been ramping up training over the last few weeks.

"I think [getting into] 'game-shape' correlates between being in the gym and skating as much as we can, but obviously that's still nothing like a game," explains the netminder. "We've been scrimmaging about once a week now, inter-squad, just keeping it fresh, keeping it loose."

DiPietro says he hasn't been watching any of the OHL, WHL,  or QMJHL playoffs to see who they could be facing in the tournament, but admits he has his own ideas of who might show up.

The MasterCard Memorial Cup kicks off in Windsor on May 19.
