Detroit Contending For MLS Team

A new Major League Soccer franchise could soon be located right across the Detroit River.

Detroit Pistons Owner Tom Gores and owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers Dan Gilbert are laying out a $1-billion plan to build a complex in downtown Detroit, which would reportedly feature a 20,000+ seat soccer stadium.

The league, which currently features 20 teams, plans to expand to 28 over the next five years or so and is identifying Detroit as a "city of interest."

New teams are already planned to pop up in Atlanta, LA and eventually Miami in the coming years.
