CK looking for public to fill vacancies on encampment committee

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent (CK) is looking for three people to join its Encampment Advisory Committee.

Established in early 2026, the committee aims to provide advice and recommendations on potential municipal encampment-related projects and programs.

It's made up of two council members and six members of the public. CK Mayor-Elect Michael Bondy and former councillor Marjorie Crew previously served alongside Joseph Vandermeer, Clair McDowell, Lynn O'Brien, Andrew Theil, Renee Geniole, and Meghan Bradley.

The municipality didn't say whether these were new positions on the committee or if three of the current public members decided to step away.

What the municipality did say is that it's looking for people with specific criteria. This includes having previously lived near a shelter or encampment, being a part of a community group helping the homeless, lived experience with encampments, and business leaders associated with the Northside Neighbours Association.

People interested in applying can learn more on the municipality's website. The deadline to apply will be November 20, 2026.
