CK urged to help 'Fill the Bus' annual food drive this weekend

The Chatham-Kent community is being asked to donate non-perishable food items at a food drive this weekend.

CK Helping Hands will be holding its annual "Fill the Bus" food drive across Chatham-Kent on Saturday and the community is invited to come out and help fill the buses from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Organizers said volunteers will be collecting non-perishable food donations at various grocery stores in Chatham, Wallaceburg, and Tilbury.

All food collected will remain in the community where it was donated to support local families.

In Chatham, the food collected at Real Canadian Superstore, Sobeys, both No Frills, Giant Tiger, and Food Basics will go to Outreach for Hunger.

In Wallaceburg, the donations will be collected at No Frills.

In Tilbury, the food items collected at Foodland and No Frills will benefit a local food bank.

"Our goal is simple, fill the bus and feed our neighbours," said CK Helping Hands organizers. "When you donate in Wallaceburg, it stays in Wallaceburg. When you donate in Tilbury, it stays in Tilbury. When you donate in Chatham, it stays in Chatham. This is neighbours helping neighbours."

Non-perishable food items needed include canned goods, pasta, rice, cereal, peanut butter, and other shelf-stable items.
