Police probing bogus shooting threats at Ursuline College Chatham

Bogus shooting threats posted on social media against Ursuline College Chatham (UCC) are under investigation by Chatham-Kent (CK) police.

CK police said the phony posts regarding a school shooting have understandably caused concern among students, parents, staff, and members of the community.

"The Chatham-Kent Police Service takes all reports involving the safety of students and schools seriously. Any information suggesting a potential threat is thoroughly reviewed and investigated to assess credibility and determine the appropriate response," a statement from police said.

CK police noted they are working closely with school officials, adding that at this time, there is no information to indicate that UCC is unsafe. Acting Staff Sergeant Lynette Rosina told CK News Today that there is no armed individual or shooting.

"The school remains a safe environment for students and staff, and the safety of our school communities continues to be our highest priority," Rosina added.

According to CK police, some information being shared on social media contains speculation, rumours, or unverified claims that can create unnecessary fear and confusion within the community.

"We encourage the public to rely on official sources, including the Chatham-Kent Police Service and school board communications, for accurate and verified information. Community members are encouraged to avoid sharing unconfirmed information online," CK police noted.

Updates will be provided when appropriate, said CK police.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Chatham-Kent Police Service at 519-352-1234.

Rosina noted the original TikTok video that was made a few days ago has been taken down.
