An event featuring the diversity and openness of Chatham-Kent (CK) will close this year's Chatham-Kent Welcome Week.
On Sunday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., 'CK Welcomes: A Community Showcase' will be held at Kingston Park.
"CK Welcomes: A Community Showcase is an event that showcases and celebrates the diversity in our community,” explained Christine Long, project coordinator for the Chatham-Kent Local Immigration Partnership (CK LIP). "The afternoon features local organizations, cultural performances, and opportunities to get involved in Chatham-Kent. It highlights what makes Chatham-Kent a great place to call home."
The 2026 Welcome Week lasted slightly longer than seven days, with the showcase capping off nearly two weeks of events. This included everything from a Games Day to a book tour to webinars aimed at navigating citizenship.
There are two events planned for Saturday as well.
From 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Franco-Fun will take place at Centennial Park in Pain Court. The family-friendly gathering is meant to celebrate Franco-Ontarian Day.
Later in the afternoon, from 4:30 to 5:30, there will be a free, women's-only swim at the Sydenham Pool in Wallaceburg.
Chatham-Kent was designated as Canada's first official Welcoming Community in 2016.
