Environment Canada has issued a yellow-level heat warning for Chatham-Kent
The warning is expected to start on Tuesday and last through Wednesday, with temperatures expected to reach 29 to 31 degrees. Humidity could make it feel closer to 40 degrees.
The weather agency predicts that there will be little relief at night, with lows between 20 and 22 degrees.
Everyone is urged to be on the lookout for signs of heat-related illnesses, especially in the very old, the very young, those who are pregnant, and those with chronic illnesses.
Symptoms can include red, hot skin, dizziness, nausea, confusion, rapid breathing, or fainting.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in cooler, shady areas, and wearing loose, lightweight clothing, to help prevent heat stroke.
Municipal centres, libraries, and Hope Haven are available as cooling centres during open hours.
