After several days of emergency water restrictions within Chatham-Kent (CK), residents can now bathe and do laundry.
According to the municipality, as of around 9:50 a.m. Monday, the emergency restrictions were lifted for people and businesses in Chatham, Grande Pointe, Pain Court, Dover Centre, Mitchell’s Bay, Dresden, Tupperville, Eberts, Prairie Siding, Thamesville, and Kent Bridge.
Water restrictions were first put in place on Monday, August 24, with further restrictions added on Saturday due to issues with the main water transmission line feeding the Chatham Water Treatment Plant.
Although residents can now resume normal water use, CK has implemented regular lawn watering restrictions for the next several days.
These new restrictions include customers with odd numbered addresses being allowed to water their lawns on odd numbered days, and customers with even numbered addresses being allowed to water their lawns on even numbered days.
Both the municipality and the CK Public Utilities Commission thanked people for their cooperation, noting that the water reduction produced "real results" that helped protect the water system.
"This was truly a community effort, and I want to thank everyone who stepped up when we needed them. I’m incredibly grateful for the patience, cooperation, and community spirit we saw throughout this situation," said Mayor Darrin Canniff.
The municipality also recognized the inconvenience this caused to residents, thanking people again for their understanding and cooperation.
