A former radio host in Chatham is running in Chatham-Kent's (CK) upcoming election.
Dave Palmer, who previously co-hosted the Big Breakfast Morning Show on Big Country 91.3, is looking to be one of two Ward 6 councillors, representing people in northwest Chatham.
He told CK News Today he decided to run since he can finally commit to the job as he no longer works early in the morning, and because he wants to help make the municipality a spot more people would like to move to.
"I want to see the best for Chatham-Kent moving forward in the next four years and onward," explained Palmer.
If elected, Palmer would like to help create more affordable housing options across CK.
He sees adding more apartments as an option; however, he believes the best solution would be to construct smaller homes that more people can actually pay for.
If this is done, he sees a positive trickle-effect happening.
"You get some tax income coming in, then you get people moving into these other apartments that are now available," he added.
When asked why people should vote for him, Palmer was quick to highlight his biggest strength: communication.
"After a 30-plus year career in broadcasting, I've been able to work with various groups, able to get people to sit down and talk, and that's where it really starts. We need to be able to talk to each other, even if our views don't 100 per cent line up; we can't get anything done if everyone is just yelling and screaming at each other," he said.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
