The Bothwell Area Recreation Advisory Committee (BARAC) will soon host its last roller skating event of the season.
Pretty in Pink at the Rink is the fifth one this year, and is in partnership with the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA). Funds raised will be put towards its Mammography Department.
"Many of us on our committee have been touched by family members with breast cancer. This was close to our hearts. So, we said definitely we would like to be involved," said BARAC member Jackie Beatty.
On top of ending their skating season with a bang, the committee is also celebrating its tenth anniversary. BARAC was started in 2016, and according to Beatty, has been very successful in increasing the usage of the Bothwell Area Sports Centre.
"Our community has been focused around that arena for over 50 years, and it means so much for us to keep it going," Beatty added. "We are so happy with the support we received from the community and the help that we've had from Chatham-Kent to help get the numbers and the usage up."
The skate will be held on August 14 at the arena. It will include a family skate beginning at 6:30 p.m., and an adult skate starting at 8:30 p.m.
Beatty expects around 150 people to take part in the event. She noted that skate rentals are limited and those participating under the age of 12 must wear a helmet.
Admission is $5, and those who donate $20 or more will receive a tax receipt.
