Remote surveillance footage prevents break in

A 56-year-old man is facing charges after an attempted break in at an empty Chatham home.

Chatham-Kent (CK) police said they were contacted by a property owner on Thursday morning, who said he saw suspicious behaviour through a remote surveillance system.

According to police, a man was spotted, through the footage, banging on the door of a Richmond Street address with a large rock. Further video footage showed the man trying to get into the back door by kicking and pushing at it, police said.

The attempts to get into the residence resulted in estimated $500 worth of damage.

The suspect was arrested by police and faces charges of attempted break and enter and mischief under $5,000.

He was hel in police custody pending bail.
