Assault charges have been laid against a man from Blenheim after police alleged he damaged property, threw a cup of tea, and punched and kicked someone.

Chatham-Kent police said officers responded to a disturbance at a residence on Malborough Street in Blenheim just after midnight on Monday and learned that a dispute between two people had escalated into a series of violent incidents.

Police noted officers located a multi-tool knife allegedly belonging to the accused, adding that the accused was bound by a court-order prohibiting him from possessing weapons or any item defined as a weapon under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Police reported the 24-year-old Blenheim man was arrested and charged with mischief, assault with a weapon, assault, failure to comply with his release order, and failure to comply with his probation conditions.
