Domestic disturbance call results in two arrests

Chatham-Kent police arrested a man and a woman over the weekend after eyewitnesses reported an assault.

Officers were called to a Chatham home just after 8 p.m. on Saturday for reports that a man had assaulted a woman.

When they arrived, police said the woman tried to hide from them and when they spoke to her, she reportedly lied about her identity.

Investigators determined that the 18-year-old woman and the 26-year-old man were both violating court orders by being in the same place, as they had conditions not to associate with one another. Police also said that the woman had attacked and threatened to kill the man.

Both suspects were arrested and face charges of assault and failing to comply with an undertaking. The woman faces additional charges of obstructing a police officer and uttering threats.

The pair were taken to police headquarters and held pending bail.

Multiple impaired driving charges laid in Chatham

Police were busy on Chatham roads over the weekend.

Just before 4 a.m. Sunday, CK police pulled over a vehicle on Orangewood Boulevard.

According to police, the driver was travelling erratically, prompting officers to pull him over and give him a roadside test, which he failed.

The man was arrested and had his licence suspended for seven days.

At about 1 p.m. the same day, CK police were called to Fifth Street for a single vehicle crash.

Police said a driver collided with a light pole.

No injuries were reported.

A 32-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with impaired driving. He was released from police custody with a future court date.

A third incident happened just before 10:30 p.m. on McNaughton Avenue.

Police said it involved an 18-year-old driver who police said was seen speeding, running stop signs, and driving erratically.

Officers said the driver tried to avoid arrest by pulling into a driveway and running inside a house, but officers followed him in and he was charged and taken to police headquarters.

He has since been released with a July court date.
