Automotive worker running to be CK's Ward 3 Councillor

A Thamesville native is throwing his hat into the ring to become Chatham-Kent's (CK) next Ward 3 Councillor.

Cory Couture, a long-time worker in the automotive sector, is hoping to be the area's only representative following changes to council's overall size and ward boundaries.

Ward 3 no longer represents Ridgetown and Highgate, leaving Thamesville and Bothwell as the largest communities.

Couture told CK News Today he wants to ensure that every community in Chatham-Kent is properly invested in, not just Chatham.

"The biggest thing I'd like to push for is equal investment amongst all rural communities. I don't feel personally that we've had proper investment into the Thamesville and Bothwell areas, and my main hope is to change this," he explained.

Along with proper representation, Couture wants the next council to be more transparent with taxpayers.

"I find from time to time that we get these surprise investments pop up. For example, the hub was a big surprise... building a new multi-pad ice arena, this is coming up as a potential investment for the OHL to come to Chatham," he added.

Couture's campaign is focusing on the phrase 'Back to Basics.' This is why he believes he'll be the best person for the job.

"For the last eight years, we've been spending on lots of shiny, fun, and interesting things. It's time to get back to the basics, get back to the roads, the sewers. These aren't sexy items, but they're critical for running a municipality."

The election will be on October 26, 2026.
