Illegal immigrant caught at Wallaceburg bank

A man living illegally in the country was arrested in Wallaceburg after trying to open an account at a bank.

At around 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Chatham-Kent (CK) police were called to a bank on James Street for someone potentially using fake documents.

After investigating, they determined that the 33-year-old man using the documents had been an illegal immigrant since 2022. The police did not specify which country the man was from.

According to police, the man caused a minor scuffle during his arrest.

The man is now facing four counts of uttering forged documents, forgery, three counts of possession of an illegal identity document, fraud, obstructing police, and resisting arrest.

He remains in police custody until a bail hearing.
