Blenheim plant retooling results in dozens of layoffs

Layoffs are coming at Woodbridge Foam in Blenheim.

The company told CK News Today that the Blenheim plant is currently undergoing retooling to produce products for the housing industry, adding that the "short-term or indefinite" layoffs will begin in May and continue through December.

"This new product line is needed for Canada and provides a sustainable solution. We plan to launch the product line in 2027," said Eric Turmel, Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications.

Woodbridge Foam in Blenheim employs a total of 155 hourly and salaried workers, according to Turmel.

He noted the number of workers affected by the layoffs will be determined as production ramps down across each product line. However, CK News Today has learned from a source, who wanted to remain anonymous, that up to 88 hourly and up to eight salaried employees could be laid off.

"Our objective at Woodbridge is to operate a successful and competitive business across all our locations. The company is maintaining ongoing communication with affected teammates and their union," added Turmel.

The Blenheim plant currently produces automotive seat cushioning, seat frame components, and interior soft trim.
