The Ontario Autism Program is getting more funding, but there's some confusion about what specifically is being funded.
The funding is to be increased from $779 million to $965 million in order to help fund programs and services such as applied behaviour analysis and occupational therapy.
"I know it was a general announcement, and it was a nice amount for sure. At this point it hasn't been clarified by the province as to what funds are going where, we just don't know," said Donna Litwin-Makey, CEO of the Children's Treatment Center of Chatham-Kent.
Litwin-Makey said the funding could help families get the financial help they need to give their child the proper services they require.
"We would always use more funding to do better and take more kids, we'll put it that way. So it's always a good time to welcome funding because there's a lot of kids and a lot of demand and some gaps for sure," said Litwin-Makey.
The funding is set to start on April 1 as part of the 2026 Ontario budget.
