Two Chatham churches are teaming up to help revitalize a local homeowner's property.
First Presbyterian Church and First Christian Reformed Church are looking for submissions for their Backyard Mission Project.
Since 2009, members of the churches have done everything from painting houses to building wheelchair ramps and fences, landscaping, and just overall cleaning up of different properties.
Barbara Sargent, one of the project's organizers, told CK News Today they're looking to help someone who may be down on their luck.
"It's [for] people who are on a low income or seniors who don't have access to people who can fix up their home," she said.
All the work done is free. The only catch, it must be outside work and can't take more than two days.
All submissions are reviewed by a contractor.
"They look at the project and assess what can be done and what can be done in two days," added Sargent.
The plan for this year is to complete the project over the June 12-13 weekend. Sargent added that once the work is finished, there's one last thing to do.
"The two churches get together on Sunday and have a joint worship service together, and we invite the homeowner to come, and we try to honour that homeowner as well," she explained.
Anyone can submit their home or another person's home. All submissions must be sent to office@firstchatham.org with the subject line "Backyard Mission."
The submission must include the home's address, the owner's name, the work that needs to be done, why it's necessary, and proof of ownership and insurance.
