Man arrested following assault at Chatham store

A 27-year-old man was charged with assault after an incident at a Chatham business.

Chatham-Kent (CK) police were called to a retail store on St. Clair Street, just after 12 p.m. on Friday, for the report of an assault.

Investigators determined that the suspect was sleeping inside the store and that he attacked an employee when they tried to wake him up.

No serious injuries were reported.

The man also faces a charge of failing to comply with probation, as police said an investigation into the incident found that he was in violation of a probation order.

Threats against family pet result in arrest

A man was arrested over the weekend after a family's dog was threatened.

CK police were called to a home on Victoria Road in Ridgetown just after 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Police said a 27-year-old was arrested following an investigation that determined that he had threatened a pet dog while holding a knife.

The man was charged with uttering threats to cause damage or injury to an animal.

He has since been released from police custody with a future court date.

Teen charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

A 16-year-old is facing a weapons charge following a disturbance in Blenheim.

CK police were called to McGregor Street at about 9:30 p.m. last Thursday for the report of a group of teens causing a disturbance.

According to police, one of the teenagers was spotted brandishing a knife. He was later arrested on John Street North and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The teen has since been released from police custody with a future court date.
