Dresden Summer Night Market says goodbye and thank you

The Dresden Summer Night Market has come to an end.

Organizers say they’ve decided to retire the annual July event and focus on the Dresden Christmas Night Market each November.

Organizer Morena McDonald told CK News Today that she and her friends loved bringing the two Night Markets to Dresden every year. However, the workload was becoming too overwhelming, and the group didn't want to compromise the event's quality and integrity.

"We would much prefer to focus on an event and make it better than to have two events and be drained by it and not produce as good of events. And so, we're really excited to focus on one and to really put Dresden on the map even more than we have before," said McDonald.

McDonald said she'll always cherish the wonderful memories from the Dresden Summer Night Market.

"For me, it was the foam party. We did that a few years ago. It was always my dream to have a park that's animated with lots of foam, and so many people enjoyed it. That was one of my favourite memories, but also, we are a group of friends who organized this for free for the town and all the memories we've made together over the years," she said.

McDonald encourages the public to visit all the other amazing summer events happening across Chatham-Kent instead.

"In terms of animating a downtown in the summer, almost every town has an event like that already. So, our hope is that the events that already exist continue to grow and that people support those ones," McDonald noted.

The Dresden Summer Night Market started in 2018 and grew to feature 100 vendors last summer, including food trucks.

McDonald looks forward to working more closely with Dresden Shines on making Christmas Town bigger and brighter than ever this year.
