Hundreds attend CK Workforce Week Job Fair

More than 2,000 people visited the recent job fair in Chatham.

Over 80 employers were on hand at the John D Bradley Convention Centre on Wednesday, accepting resumes, performing interviews, and ultimately filling vacant positions.

CK News Today spoke to people attending the fair, who noted they had been looking for employment for multiple months with no success.

There were all types of career paths at the job fair, but many people came for the different trade opportunities, including Isaac Stamand, who has been looking for a job opportunity for a few months.

"[The CK job market] is not terrible, but it's not the best either. All your [trade] opportunities are mainly in Alberta," said Stamand.

Mark Simmons, a Dresden resident currently working as a Co-op employee, seconded Stamand's thoughts.

"I've been doing that for a while, looking for jobs," Mark Simmons explained. "It's been pretty hard. There are a lot of places, they're all full, so I can't really get in anywhere."

Tonia Chandler, a CK resident who recently moved from the Niagara region, explained that getting a job has been no easy feat. She noted that the job market is much more stagnant in CK, with fewer tourists.

The Job fair comes after Canada's unemployment rate fell a few percentage points to 6.5 per cent, according to a February 2026 report from Statistics Canada.
