Chatham-Kent is hoping to host the 2028 and 2030 Country Music Association of Ontario awards.
Chatham-Kent (CK) Council will be asked on Monday night to authorize spending up to $120,000 on the hosting rights fee over the two years and a maximum of $20,000 for marketing and event expenses to host the two shows.
Administration said the funding would come from the Together CK Reserve.
If successful, the municipality said hosting the awards show would include a weekend of live music, concerts, and activities on June 2-4, 2028, and May 31-June 1, 2030, with the awards show planned for the Sundays of each weekend.
Some events are free, while others, such as the awards show will require buying tickets, according to staff.
A report going to CK Council on Monday evening showed that Chatham-Kent businesses, restaurants, and hotels would see an estimated $200,000 each year in economic spinoffs for hosting the event.
