Nest Realty is collecting formal wear to give away as part of its Fit Check initiative for students in Grades 8 to 12.
This is the first year the local realty company has hosted an event like this, noting that formal wear is a luxury that people often don't budget for.
"It's meant for students who are having difficulty affording all of these things, so we're collecting formal wear, dresses, suits, accessories, even shoes, hoping that students can come and get the entire outfit for no cost at all," said Nest Realty Inc. Realtor Bridget Blonde.
Roughly 30 dresses and a number of suits have been donated that will be available to take home, with more donations coming in.
"It's crazy the different corners of the community our donations are coming from. It's really cool, people are so generous in Chatham-Kent," Blonde continued.
Nest Realty will be creating fitting rooms in its office, giving students the chance to book a time to look through the stock and try clothes on.
"We're hoping to give away everything we got, but if not, we know that there's one coming up in May at the Pines that also does a very similar program for high school students, so we'll plan to donate anything that we don't give away," Blonde added.
Donations can be dropped off at Nest Realty Inc. at 14-B William Street North in Chatham, with the Fit Check weekend scheduled for March 27 to 28. Appointments can be booked by emailing fitcheck@nestrealty.ca.
