One of Chatham's most listened to radio stations is expanding after 99 years in the community.
Starting April 25, CFCO will only be broadcast on 91.3 FM.
Currently, people can listen to country music and up-to-date local news at this frequency, as well as 92.9 FM and 630 AM.
CFCO has been broadcasting using AM airwaves since 1927. It's been airing on 92.9 FM since 2000, limited to just Chatham. The new FM signal will broadcast at 1,250 watts from a new tower location, providing consistent 24/7 coverage across all of Chatham-Kent, in all weather conditions.
"The reality is that the long-term viability of AM radio is coming to an end. “To sustain CFCO for the next 100 years, moving fully to the FM band was a necessary step," said Blackburn Media Vice President Walter Ploegman.
This change will have no impact on anyone who listens to CFCO online. CFCO will also continue to stream online via the iHeartRadio app and on smart speakers, ensuring listeners can tune in wherever and however they choose.
"There will be no disruption to service," added CFCO Program Manager Dave Palmer. "CFCO will broadcast continuously during the transition to full FM and will remain on 630 AM and 92.9 FM until the AM signal is officially retired in a few months."
