The bitterly cold conditions have led Environment Canada to issue a cold warning.
The temperature is expectd to fall to -19 Celsius Friday afternoon, but with the wind gusting up to 50km/h, it will feel like -28.
It will get even colder overnight, with forecasters calling for a low of -22 C and a wind chill near -30 C.
There is also a risk of frostbite, which can develop on exposed skin in just minutes.
You should also check on older family, friends, and neighbours, while outdoor workers should take regular breaks to warm up.
Environment Canada also advises that if it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.
The cold conditions are expected to continue into Saturday morning.
Chatham Hope Haven at 183 Wellington Street West is open as a warming centre from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with regular daily hours between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
