Strong winds swept across much of southwestern Ontario on Friday.
Environment Canada initially issued a special weather statement for Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex, Huron-Perth, Grey-Bruce, and north Wellington County advising of winds possibly gusting up to 90 kilometres an hour.
The weather statement was upgraded to a yellow wind warning shortly after 12 p.m. The update called for wind gusts of up to 110 kilometres per hour.
The national weather agency previously said showers and the risk of thunderstorms would push into the region Friday morning, with the potential of strong wind gusts near 70 to 80 kilometres an hour.
A cold front was then expected to push through the region during the afternoon, possibly leading to another wave of strong winds topping 100 kilometres an hour.
The wind warning ended for Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, and Windsor-Essex shortly after 3 p.m., and for the rest of the region later in the evening.
The yellow alert calls for a moderate impact level. Environment Canada's colour-coded system launched in November 2025.
