Man charged after police cruiser hit with tire

A 46-year-old man from Wallaceburg has been charged with impaired driving after one of his tires detached from his vehicle and struck a police cruiser.

At around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, an officer was conducting a traffic stop on Margaret Avenue in Wallaceburg when something suddenly hit their vehicle.

The officer realized it was a tire from a passing vehicle.

After speaking with the driver of the vehicle that was now one tire short, the officer believed they were showing signs of impairment, police said. The driver provided a breath sample, which came back over the legal limit.

The man was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired.

He's since been released from police custody with a future court date.
