A 21-year-old man is facing charges after police said he refused to listen to officers during a traffic stop.
At around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Chatham-Kent (CK) police pulled over a vehicle that officers spotted speeding on St. Clair Street in Chatham.
While speaking with the driver, officers noticed signs suggesting he may have been impaired, so they demanded a breath sample, police said. They added that he refused to provide a sample, his driver's licence, registration, or proof of insurance when asked.
Officers arrested the driver and brought him back to the CK Police Service Headquarters, where two breath samples reportedly tested positive for alcohol.
He was charged with refusing to comply with a demand, operating a vehicle while impaired, failing to provide a breath sample, failing to provide his licence and insurance card, having cannabis in an open package while in control of a vehicle, and disobeying a sign.
The man was also charged with mischief after allegedly damaging his holding cell.
