Women's group donates $25K to CK Hospice

A recent $25,000 donation will provide more than a month of support for someone receiving end-of-life care at the Chatham-Kent Hospice.

The money came from Pretty in Pink, a women's group from Dover that has been fundraising for the hospice for over a decade.

"In the Fall of 2014, we heard about community fundraising initiatives for a Hospice in Chatham-Kent. We knew right away that this was something we wanted to be a part of as a group," said Kelly Waddick, Pretty in Pink member. "It's a peaceful place for families to get the care and support they need in the end stages of life. Every one of us has had a family member or friend [who] has used this facility, and [we] hear great things about the care and programs offered, so we keep it close to our hearts and continue to fundraise to help keep it in our community."

Over the past 11 years, the group has gifted more than $222,428 to ensure those who need it have access to and can navigate hospice care and grief and bereavement support.

"We are so grateful to the members of Pretty in Pink and the community who support their events throughout the year," said Brock McGregor, Executive Director, Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation. "This donation will fund 42 days of care for a resident and their family, allowing us to continue to provide compassionate end-of-life care at no-cost to individuals and families in our community."

The Chatham-Kent Hospice requires $182,000 in donations each month to operate. Since opening in April 2016, the hospice has provided end-of-life care to nearly 1,700 families and supported over 2,500 individuals with grief and bereavement support.
