The number of vehicles stolen in Chatham-Kent so far this year is trending lower than last year, but the data shows that pickup trucks continue to be popular targets for thieves.
Chatham-Kent (CK) police reported a total of 138 vehicles stolen across the municipality from January to the end of October 2025. That's lower on average than the 202 stolen vehicles reported in all of 2024.
Police said 90 of the 138 stolen vehicles in the first 10 months of this year are pickup trucks, minivans, sedans, SUVs, or motorcycles, while the other 48 include ATVs, e-bikes, and dirt bikes.
According to CK police, the most common stolen vehicles in 2025 are similar to 2024 and include GMC Sierra (12), Chevy Silverado (10), Ford F150 (5), Dodge Ram (4), and Dodge Journey/Volkswagen Jetta (2).
CK police reported 120 of the 202 total vehicle thefts last year were sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, minivans, or motorcycles. Other vehicles reported stolen in 2024 included electric bicycles, ATVs, and dirt bikes.
CK police are reminding the community to stay vigilant and encourage all residents to take simple precautions to reduce auto theft in CK and to protect their vehicles, including the following proactive steps:
Always lock your vehicles, even when parked at home.
Never leave keys inside or in the ignition.
Remove valuables from plain view.
Consider installing anti-theft devices or tracking technology.
