A 52-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting three teens and one young woman in Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton in 1997 has been denied bail again.
Jason Davidson, 52, was denied bail at a special bail hearing in Chatham court on Thursday afternoon.
Thursday's hearing in Chatham was not open to the media.
Special bail hearings are common in Ontario and Canada, particularly for serious offences, and their use has reportedly increased in recent years.
The Ontario Bar Association said the number of these hearings in Ontario has been concerning due to associated delays. They take more court time than regular bail hearings due to their complexity.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) previously alleged that Davidson sexually assaulted the teens between March and August of 1997.
Davidson was arrested in Campbell River, British Columbia on October 26 and faces 15 criminal charges, including kidnapping, forcible confinement, uttering threats, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault with a weapon, and theft.
The OPP noted that Davidson has ties to the Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent areas, and it's believed he moved to B.C. around 2017.
